World Rapid and Blitz Championships Started

The Grand Opening of the King Salman World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships was held in the Central Chess Club.

World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen was the first to draw the lots, followed by Anna Muzychuk, Hikaru Nakamura and Kateryna Lagno. All the rating favorites got white pawns. The Championships were held at the Luzhniki Stadium within 26-30 December. The champions: Magnus Carslen (Rapid and Blitz), Humpy Koneru (Rapid, women’s section) and Kateryna Lagno (Blitz, women’s section).
